# Native 68K development milestone — Mac OS 8.1

**Evidence class:** unreleased macMAKE development build; not included in macMAKE v0.1.0.
**Target:** Classic Mac OS 8.1, Motorola 68K, Quadra 650 compatibility profile.
**Record date:** 2026-10-16.

## Native HelloWindow runtime result

The macMAKE-controlled native 68K development path built a small C89 GUI
application named HelloWindow68K. The owner confirmed that it launched on the
Mac OS 8.1 68K guest, displayed its message, and worked with the corrected
window-drag behavior.

- macMAKE development revision: `0284f62469bd6d591d6f03ca3627aed00645c7f3`
- Compiler/toolchain: GNU GCC 12.2.0 and GNU Binutils 2.46.1 configured for
  `m68k-unknown-elf`; macMAKE-owned startup, Toolbox veneers, CODE-resource
  construction, and MacBinary packaging.
- MacBinary: `HelloWindow68K-native-MacOS8.1-20261016.bin`, 2,176 bytes.
- SHA-256: `e758d7be69d7dfd29f7482e6c8f9c22acf2bbbc0b311b1a29d252b185013f952`.
- Host structural inspection: passed for classic CODE resources, Finder
  metadata, and MacBinary packaging.
- Runtime: owner-confirmed launch, message display, and window interaction on
the Mac OS 8.1 68K guest.

This is evidence for this small native application and this development
toolchain path. It does not establish broad Toolbox coverage or native 68K
support in the public v0.1.0 release. The emulator profile is not a claim of
cycle-accurate Quadra 650 hardware emulation.

## makePAD native build result

The same native development path built makePAD v0.1 using all six of its
existing C89 application source files. This is the same application source
base used for the PowerPC builds. The link and package passed host-side
inspection. In the first owner run on Mac OS 8.1 68K, the application opened
and accepted text entry, but the owner could not drag its window or click the
File menu and reported a glitched scrollbar. This is partial startup/input
evidence; the editor's mouse interaction did not pass.

- macMAKE development revision: `0284f62469bd6d591d6f03ca3627aed00645c7f3`
- makePAD application implementation revision:
  `a7256ecedf797538bca713a69cd49857b3b64bae`
- Compiler/toolchain: GNU GCC 12.2.0 and GNU Binutils 2.46.1 for
`m68k-unknown-elf`, with macMAKE-owned application startup, Toolbox veneers,
classic CODE resources, resource fork, and MacBinary packaging.
- Target: `Mac OS 8.1 68K Native`.
- MacBinary: `makePAD-v0.1-macos8.1-68k.bin`, 17,280 bytes.
- SHA-256: `25b4626864215052d42cfcbbe36d70549408bee4b8f61a3ffbc69d6d260ea26a`.
- Host checks: six C translation units compiled; link resolved; CODE 0/CODE 1,
`SIZE`, Finder metadata, bundle resources, resource-fork boundaries, and
  MacBinary structure passed inspection.
- First runtime candidate: 17,280 bytes, SHA-256
  `25b4626864215052d42cfcbbe36d70549408bee4b8f61a3ffbc69d6d260ea26a`.
- Owner observation: application opened and accepted typing; window dragging,
File-menu interaction, and scrollbar behavior failed.

This development target uses locally supplied Universal Interfaces headers.
It does not use Retro68, Elf2Mac, Retro68 Rez, Metrowerks MSL archives, or an
InterfaceLib stub. No SDK files or application source files are distributed
with this evidence report.

The implementation currently emits one CODE 1 segment. Application globals
use PC-relative storage within that segment; a general A5-relative data model
and multiple-segment relocation support remain outside this milestone. Host
artifact inspection does not substitute for owner runtime testing.
