# Native 68K makePAD menu and Open diagnostic candidate — host build

**Target:** Mac OS 8.1, native 68K, Quadra 650 compatibility profile
**Evidence type:** host build and structural artifact inspection
**Guest runtime:** owner reports failed document opening and window movement
**Public macMAKE v0.1.0 status:** native 68K remains unsupported

The candidate was built from six shared makePAD C89 translation units using
macMAKE's unreleased native 68K development path:

- makePAD source revision: `6ae3249d69e093cf1c2b9e81a7a6160fce57ea20`
- macMAKE development revision: `d263743a181635d9b5481c40cac5dc04f8b3638d`
- Compiler/provider: GNU GCC 12.2.0 and GNU Binutils 2.46.1 for
  `m68k-unknown-elf`
- Output: `makePAD-v0.1-macos8.1-68k-apple-open-diagnostics.bin`
- MacBinary II size: 17,664 bytes
- SHA-256: `a89f849bff9ca345f1a7a5f038d4ee1ddfc20675bd75f90605cdc51211512923`

The candidate has the following focused changes:

- The Apple menu uses the Font Manager's `appleMark` glyph.
- Custom message windows are centered using the current screen bounds.
- File-open failures display the failing operation and numeric Mac OS error.

All six source files compiled, the native link completed without undefined
symbols, and macMAKE's independent inspector passed for classic 68K CODE 0 and
CODE 1, Finder `APPL`/`MPAD` identity, resource fork, and MacBinary structure.
No OS runtime behavior has been claimed for this candidate.

## Owner retest

The owner reports that this exact candidate cannot open files through Finder or File > Open and cannot move its window. Successful structural inspection did not establish correct runtime interaction. The subsequent [ABI repair candidate](native-m68k-makepad-abi-repair-2026-10-16.md) is recorded separately and awaits testing.
